As former longtime president of the Jewish community of Tyrol and Vorarlberg, Prof. Fritsch, is a longtime friend and supporter of University of Innsbruck. In 2013 she was very actively involved in establishing the Austria-Israel Academic Network Innsbruck. For her outstanding commitment to the Jewish community, her active role in making the community an important part of the culture and society of Tyrol as well as her loyalty to the University of Innsbruck and AIANI, Prof. Fritsch was appointed as Honorary Senator of the University of Innsbruck.

From April 18 to 26, 2016 Prof. Marjorie Perloff, one of the formost poetry scholars and critics visited the University of Innsbruck. Prof. Perloff was born 1931 in Vienna and was forced to emigrate 1938 with her family to the United States. The escape route took the family also through Innsbruck. During her visit in Innsbruck in April Prof. Perloff held several lectures at the university and joined a talk on Wittgenstein with Prof. Allan Janik from the research institute “Brenner Archiv”.
On April 26, Prof. Perloff received an honorary doctorate by the University of Innsbruck. The ceremony was followed by a lecture of Prof. Perloff on "Returning to Innsbruck" in the auditorium of the university, where she described her escape in 1938 and her memories about the emigration and her days spent in Innsbruck. The talk was also based on her autobiographical work “Wien: America. Paradoxien einer Emigration.” From March 4 – 6 2016 around 200 entrepreneurial students, aspiring entrepreneurs and startups met in Innsbruck for the start up event “Skinnovation” organized by the University of Innsbruck and the Austrian Economic Chamber/Junior Chamber. While skiing, they worked on innovative ideas, pitching took place on the ski lift and in front of investors in a giant igloo. Among 39 speakers, three experts from Israel, Dr. Ofer Zellermayer, Hilda Glick and Dr. Dafna Kariv, participated in this extraordinary event. AIANI sponsored the visit of Dr. Kariv from the College of Management in Rishon Lezion (Israel) at the Skinnovation Event where she talked about "Israel as a Startup Nation". Fotos: Skinnovation
Prof. Anat Stavans from the Applied Linguistics division of the English Department at Beit Berl Academic College (Israel) gave a guest lecture on February 3 2016 at the University of Innsbruck. In her presentation, Prof. Stavans discussed central issues concerning Multilingual Language Policy and Planning in general and Educational Language Policy in particular. Israel as a multilingual and multicultural country that has dealt and is still dealing with a linguistically, ethnically and culturally heterogenous population, served as a good case study. From November 17-19 2015, the international conference „Primo Levi. Tradition, Translation, Transmission“ was organized at the University of Innsbruck. About ten experts on Primo Levi from Austria, Germany, Italy, Israel, Great Britain and the US participated and presented their research. The conference was organized by Dr. Federico Italiano from the University of Innsbruck and Dr. Manuela Consonni from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Dr. Consonni was an AIANI Guest Scientist in Innsbruck in 2014. AIANI partly sponsored the conference and gave logistical support, together with the Italian Center and the Institute for Roman Studies of the University of Innsbruck.
Dr. Aviv Zohar from the School of Engineering and Computer Science of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem hold a lecture on Bitcoin and its challenges for the future during his visit in Innsbruck . Dr. Zohar was invited by Prof. Böhme from the Department of Computer Science at University of Innsbruck to work on a joint publication for a scientific journal. The Guest Lecture received great interest and Dr. Zohar answered many questions from the audience within and after his talk during a small reception that was organized by the Department of Computer Science. On September 2, 2015 the Austria - Israel Academic Network Innsbruck organized the visit of Nobel Laureate Prof. Dan Shechtman from the Technion in Haifa at the University of Innsbruck. Prof. Shechtman received the Nobel Price of Chemistry in 2011 for the initially controversial discovery of Quasicrystals. After a short welcome by university representatives he signed the guest book of the university. The award-winning scientist from Israel also took the time to talk to colleagues. He met with students and gave them some personal advice on their scientific careers. Nobel laureate Shechtman ended his visit with a tour of the Center for Chemistry and Biochemistry (CCB) of the University of Innsbruck and the Medical University and a lunch with colleagues.
